Stabilizing Your Soil With a Geogrid

Geogrids are one of three varieties of Geotextiles that DX2 Geosyntex, Inc. can install to stabilize the ground you walk, drive and build on. Instead of creating a barrier to separate one layer of aggregate from another, the geogrid’s crossing structure guides the integration of aggregate layers and limits horizontal shifting.
We carry Uniaxial Geogrids for jobs when the pressure from soil displacement comes from one direction and Biaxial Geogrids, which are stabilized for pressure from multiple directions.

Reinforcing the Existing Soil

A geogrid is not intended to seal soil in place, instead, it acts like the walls in your home. They hold up the roof and separate the contents of each room so it stays put. When subgrades are weak, you need the added stability of a geogrid to keep the materials you are working on and around in the place they are supposed to be.

Geogrids: What You Need to Know

Common Application

Of the two varieties of geogrids, Uniaxial Geogrids offer high long-term design strengths and can be used in most MSE applications for soil reinforcements, including retaining walls and slopes.
The second variety of geogrid is the Biaxial Geogrids, which are most suitable for base course reinforcement and soil stabilization. If you have a fine-grain aggregate or loose soil, a Biaxial Geogrid can help to hold the elements in place. For paved roads, construction haul roads and foundation reinforcement on weak subgrades, consider a Biaxial Geogrid installation.

Geogrid Structure

The difference between Biaxial and Uniaxial Geogrids is in the “machine direction” or the direction that fibers are arranged in production. Biaxial Geogrids are manufactured with two machine directions to enhance their high tensile strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions. Uniaxial Geogrids are laid in one machine direction and are better suited to unilateral pressure.

Varieties of Geogrids

We carry and install Mirafi BXG110 and BXG120 Biaxial Geogrids. For Uniaxial Geogrids, we carry Mirafi 3XT, 5XT, 8XT and more. Our geotextile specialists can help you decide the best material to reinforce your soil. Call and ask for advice.
