Erosion Control
Applications and Design Challenges
Geotextiles have replaced graded granular filters used beneath riprap or other armor materials in revetments. Applications include drainage channels, shorelines, and bridge and pier scour protection systems. Without a geotextile filter, wave action and water movement erode subgrade soils from beneath the riprap or armor. Degradation of the subgrade negates the benefit of the riprap or armor, resulting in extensive repair and replacement.

Geotextile Solutions and Benefits
The selection of geotextiles for permanent erosion control is similar to subsurface drainage. However, permanent erosion control applications usually require higher geotextile strength properties. The geotextile must be able to survive placement of possibly very large, angular riprap, plus be able to endure severe wave action.

DX2 offers a broad spectrum of nonwoven and woven geotextiles specifically designed for erosion control applications.
Cellular Confinement
Other solutions DX2 can provide include Cellular Confinement Systems which are lightweight, flexible mats, made of high density polyethylene strips, bonded together to form a honeycomb system. These systems can be effective in solving many of the problems associated with poor soil conditions, including ground stabilization, slope protection, and retaining walls.

    Erosion Blankets
Erosion Blankets fall into two categories: temporary and permanent. Temporary erosion blankets provide ideal growth conditions and encourage germination of seeds. Erosion blankets are easy to install and are cost effective. After installation, the blankets help retain moisture and help prevent soil loss. Permanent erosion mats, such as Tensar TB1000®, provide a three-dimensional nylon matrix and use nature's own erosion process to reinforce plant roots by entwining the root structure into the Tensar TB1000® matrix. The result is a tough and extremely stable system that can withstand high velocity discharges. Contact DX2 Geosyntex, Inc., to find out what system best fits your job needs.
